Spider-Man: The Animated Series Episode Fourteen: Neogenic Nightmare, Chapter 1 - The Insidious Six

The Insidious Six

First Aired: September 9th, 1995

Synopsis: While swinging around the city and thinking about his love interests, Spider-Man finds his powers temporarily turning off. Meanwhile, Kingpin is having a meeting with some crime lords, who are annoyed that he hasn't dealt with Spider-Man. Kingpin reveals that he has a plan to deal with Spider-Man, and breaks Chameleon, Mysterio, Rhino, Shocker, Scorpion, and Doctor Octopus out of prison. Although some of them, notably Octopus, are reluctant to do so, they agree to work together as the Insidious Six. They don't commit any crimes to start out with, and so Peter sleeps for a whole day before they start, using Chameleon to frame Spider-Man as their leader. When he tries fighting them, he finds his powers turning off in battle, and has to escape via subway since he can't fight them.

Spider-Man: The Animated Series Episode Thirteen: Day of the Chameleon

Day of the Chameleon

First Aired: July 8th, 1995

Synopsis: At the airport, mysterious people try stopping a random man, who soon starts changing his shape and escapes. Shortly afterwards, Peter Parker rushes into the Daily Bugle and desperately asks J. Jonah Jameson to be the person to photograph the signing of a peace treaty that's coming up. Jonah reluctantly agrees, but then he and Peter are captured and taken to a flying fortress. Once aboard, Peter sneaks away and overhears Jonah meeting with Nick Fury, the war hero who's supposed to be dead, and is in charge of the people running the fortress, SHIELD. Fury notes that in the obituary Jonah ran in the Daily Bugle his photo was flipped so his eyepatch was on the wrong eye. He then explains that the man from the start of the episode was Chameleon, a spy who shapeshifts by capturing people's images with his belt. He's been hired to stop the leaders signing the peace treaty and will probably try to do so at the party Jonah's going to have to celebrate it, that night. Fury gives Jonah a pin that he can use to contact SHIELD, then returns Peter and Jonah to Manhattan.

Spider-Man: The Animated Series Episode Twelve: The Hobgoblin: Part 2

The Hobgoblin, Part 1

 

First Aired: May 27th, 1995

Synopsis: Following on from last episode, Spider-Man dodges out of the way of the explosion from the smart bomb then hides under a car in the street. Hobgoblin sends a bomb at the car, exploding it, but unbeknownst to him Spider-Man hid in the sewers using a manhole cover. Spider-Man heads to Norman Osborn and questions why Hobgoblin was talking to him, to which Norman says it's all taken care of. Spider-Man reluctantly leaves but says he'll come to see Norman later. Meanwhile, Hobgoblin shows up at Kingpin's base, whereupon Kingpin reveals that he knows that Hobgoblin is working with Norman (again). Hobgoblin causes enough chaos that Kingpin and Alistair leave the base, and he decides that he'll use it for himself. He calls up Norman Osborn and blackmails him for control of Oscorp, threatening Harry's life otherwise. Norman is approached by a surprising ally to take care of the Hobgoblin problem - namely, the Kingpin.

Spider-Man: The Animated Series Episode Eleven: The Hobgoblin: Part 1

The Hobgoblin, Part 1

First Aired: May 20th, 1995

Synopsis: Harry Osborn asks Peter Parker to move in with him to an apartment in Manhattan, saying that he needs a roommate and his dad wants someone responsible. The two discuss it as they go to the opening ceremony of a criminal science building, hosted by Norman Osborn and Wilson Fisk. Shortly into the ceremony, Hobgoblin shows up and attacks the ceremony. Peter changes to Spider-Man and fights him, but Hobgoblin eventually gets away. It turns out that Hobgoblin was hired by Norman to get rid of Kingpin. Since he failed, Norman fires Hobgoblin. He also mentions that he knows Hobgoblin's true identity and that if he dies then it'll be revealed to the world. Later, Peter talks to Aunt May about moving in with Harry and gets her approval, although he doesn't see her shed a single tear. When he goes to his new apartment, he finds that Harry's hosting a housewarming party, during which he flirts with Mary Jane.

Spider-Man: The Animated Series Episode Ten: The Alien Costume: Part 3

The Alien Costume, Part 3

First Aired: May 13th, 1995

Synopsis: Spider-Man sees Rhino on a rooftop and briefly gets into a fight with him and Shocker, who also appears, only for Eddie Brock, now bonded with the symbiote and calling himself Venom, to show up and defeat them. Venom reveals that he knows Spider-Man's identity, and gets into a fight with Spider-Man. During the fight, Spider-Man notes that Venom doesn't trigger his spider-sense. Eventually Venom ends up leaving, taunting Spider-Man that he doesn't know what he has planned for him. Spider-Man investigates Eddie's old apartment and finds an order for some dumbbells to his new apartment. He goes to the Daily Bugle and discovers that John Jameson has recovered from his coma and is going to be fine, but upon changing to Spider-Man outside the building, is confronted by Venom again. Venom webs up Spider-Man and then unmasks him in front of a crowd, but they're too high up for anyone to see his identity. Spider-Man manages to break free and swing away.

Spider-Man: The Animated Series Episode Nine: The Alien Costume: Part 2

The Alien Costume, Part 2

First Aired: May 6th, 1995

Synopsis: Spider-Man is being hunted by some people who manage to gain the upper hand when they start using sonic weaponry on him. He's only able to escape when his new suit acts on its own and gets him to safety. Spider-Man later goes to Doctor Connors, and with a bit of difficulty is able to get him to cut off some of the suit. Connors then confirms Spider-Man's suspicions: it's alive. Worse, it's a symbiote and wants to bond completely with him. Spider-Man leaves in spite of Connors' protests that he needs to get rid of the suit. Meanwhile, John Jameson wakes up from the coma he's in and says that Rhino stole the Promethium X from the space shuttle, proving that Eddie Brock faked his photos of Spider-Man stealing it. Jonah fires him and publicly retracts the reward for capturing Spider-Man. With the news of Eddie being fired, Kingpin realises that there's someone who could trace the Promethium X to him, and sends Shocker after Eddie.

Spider-Man: The Animated Series Episode Eight: The Alien Costume: Part 1

The Alien Costume: Part 1

First Aired: April 29th, 1995

Synopsis: In space, astronaut John Jameson is exploring a meteor where he discovers a mysterious black liquid. Shortly afterwards, the shuttle heads back to Earth full of useful discoveries, including the isotope Promethium X, which could be a new power source. Black liquid swarms into the cockpit of the shuttle, and the pilots lose control of it, risking it crashing into Manhattan. Kingpin is interested in the Promethium X, and hires Rhino to steal it from the shuttle when it lands on the George Washington Bridge. Spider-Man, who has headed to the shuttle to help if he can, finds Rhino there and they briefly fight before Rhino gets recalled by the Kingpin. As he leaves, Spider-Man puts a spider-tracer on him, and a nearby Eddie Brock takes photos of Rhino leaving with the suitcase of Promethium X. Spider-Man gets the astronauts out of the shuttle, but heads back in when he hears a noise. The shuttle falls into the river, and Spider-Man comes out with black liquid covering his costume. When J. Jonah Jameson arrives at the crash site, Eddie claims that he has photos of Spider-Man stealing something from the shuttle.

Spider-Man: The Animated Series Episode Seven: Kraven the Hunter

First Aired: April 1st, 1995

Synopsis: Peter Parker shows up to a Hardy Foundation laboratory for an interview, only to find the costumed Kraven the Hunter smashing it up while a scientist, Mariah Crawford, cowers. Changing to Spider-Man, Peter's able to save Mariah and get away from Kraven. She explains that Kraven was a hunter who she hired as a guide when she needed to go into the jungle to find a scientist friend of hers. Kraven and Mariah became lovers over time. Although she found her friend, he had taken a drug he had invented which had made him more bestial. He gave her the only remaining sample of it, which she had to use on Kraven when he was badly injured. Over time Kraven became more monstrous, and she fled to America to try and find a cure. Spider-Man leaves Mariah in an apartment for safety, saying that the owner won't be home for a while. She ends up fleeing it when she sees an ominous shadow at the door, assuming that it's Kraven, but it turns out to be Robbie Robertson, returning home early from his holiday. When Kraven finds the apartment, he assumes that Robbie is Mariah's lover, and attacks him.

Spider-Man: The Animated Series Episode Six: The Sting of the Scorpion

The Sting of the Scorpion

First Aired: March 11th, 1995

Synopsis: Peter is walking Felicia Hardy to her home as she tells him that she doesn't want to date him since he's just her tutor. While she's talking to him Peter spots a suspicious man following them. He ducks off and changes to Spider-Man, but the man gets away when Spidey has to stop some jewellery robbers. The next day, when Peter's selling photos of the robbery, J. Jonah Jameson acts very suspicious of Peter's photography skills, right before meeting with the suspicious man, named Gargan. It turns out that Jonah thinks that Spider-Man and Peter know one another and wants Gargan to prove the connection. When an eavesdropping Spider-Man comes in and humiliates the two of them, Jonah tells Gargan that he can help him get powerful enough to stop Spider-Man. At Empire State University, a scientist named Stillwell turns Gargan into the Scorpion, and then he's sent after Spider-Man. After an intense battle, Spider-Man ends up crushed beneath a water tower, with Gargan in position to unmask him.
